CHARTIER: CREATOR OF WINES, BEERS, AND SAKÉ

Wines – In 2009, François Chartier began applying his experience and expertise to producing his own wines in Europe (France, Italy and Spain). Carefully selected and blended to enhance the pleasures of food and wine pairing, these wines reflect a unique approach and a savoir-faire that he continuously refined alongside his various partners. Chartier wines are authentic, staying true to the distinctive character of each appellation. They enjoyed immediate success in Quebec following their launch by the SAQ in 2013.

Sake – François Chartier has long been passionate about Japan, a country he has visited numerous times since 1995. During one of these trips, he discovered the fascinating world of Japanese sake and developed a deep appreciation for its richness and diversity. Since 2017, he has served as Master Blender for Tanaka Shuzo, one of Japan’s oldest sake breweries, founded in 1789. The brewery chose to name its new collection of artisanal sakes, crafted by Chartier, Tanaka 1789 X Chartier. His first artisanal sakes were launched internationally in spring 2020. Following their success, which brought his sakes to more than 42 countries, he joined forces with his partner Isabelle Moren to launch Essence 5 by Chartier, a brand under which they develop sakes in collaboration with other Japanese breweries and export them to several countries.

Beers – In March 2014, Glutenberg, a rising star among Montreal’s microbreweries, launched a new project in partnership with François Chartier: the Gastronomy Series, a collection of seasonal beers designed to complement food and inspired by Chartier’s book Papilles et Molécules and his aromatic science. The collection includes Impérial Sotolon, Saison Froide, Solérone d’automne, Lapsang d’automne and Myrcène de glace. Three of these beers received the prestigious title of Best Innovative Beer in the World at the World Beer Cup Awards, and all are gluten-free.

In October 2020, François Chartier’s latest aromatic venture was unveiled in Barcelona: Equilater – Damm by Chartier, a gastronomic beer inspired by his aromatic science and developed in collaboration with Damm, one of Spain’s leading beer brands. In 2008, Damm had previously partnered with renowned chef Ferran Adrià to create Inedit, a beer specifically designed for gastronomy.

BEERS

Where it all began… It’s important to note that Chartier’s passion for beer isn’t a recent development—in fact, it was his love of beer that led him to wine in the first place!
